| Maoist apology for Briton's abduction |
| 29-Oct-2003 |
CPN Maoist chairman Comrade Prachanda, in an interview with the Krishna
Sen Online Service, has said the party had always avoided the policy of abducting, causing physical harm to foreign citizens, tourists or government officials and that the party was startled by the abduction of British army officials by a platoon of the CPN-Maoist Peoples' Army.
"Learning about the abduction we ordered their immediate release. We are conducting an investigation on how the incident occurred and who were responsible for this. It was against our policy and we will make public every detail of the incident after our investigation concludes,"
Prachanda said.
He added that the party had directed all its departments and agencies
not to repeat such actions. "We will ensure that no American citizens,
tourists or officials, except those who come in the battlefield with the
Nepali army, would be caused any harm by the Maoist militia." He,
however, appealed to the UN to raise voice against the American
imperialism.
"We consider the interest shown by the UN bodies in Nepali affairs as a
positive step and we request the UN to give a chance to the CPN-Maoist
to inform the world the actual situation in Nepal."
He also clarified that the Maoists had not changed their policies on
NGOs and INGOs. "We are trying to create harmony between the development
efforts and the political and military strategies of the party. We
always welcome NGOs or INGOs working in tandem with our policy to
conduct development works because this world ultimately help in ensuring
peoples' victory."
He said the Maoist were always open to talks and clarified that they
never opposed peace talks to find a forward looking solution and for
ensuring peoples' sovereignty. We, however, added that considering
increasing militarizsation in the country there was no scope for talks
with the ancient regime and the only plausible things is to defeat it
with the power of the peoples' war. "Peace talks can happen only when
the ancient regime bows in front of the people."
He added that the ancient regime has adopted a policy of militarisation
by declaring the formation of unified command, including the civil
servants. …..NepalNews |
