UN pledges for non-violence in Nepal
25-Oct-2003
United Nations Resident Coordinator Mathew Kahane Friday called on all sections of society to abandon violence, urging the Maoists to return to the political process, reports said.

"A lasting solution to the major internal conflict afflicting Nepal can only be found by sorting out differences between the parties through carefully-organised negotiations and building consensus on these points," Kahane said. He was addressing the 58th anniversary of UN Friday.

"Violence is no way to address political issues, it makes ordinary people suffer cruelly; it embitters everybody, and provides no solution." He praised Royal Nepal Army's role in maintaining peace and order globally, according to The Himalayan Times.
