Sindhu-Tatopani Festival from October 31
21-Oct-2003
KATHMANDU, Oct 20
With an aim to promote religion, culture and tourism attractions of the Sindhupalchowk district, local residents of the district are organizing a three-day Sindhu-Tatopani Festival from October 31.

Organizing a press conference in the capital today, the organizers of the festival informed that they are primarily targeting the domestic tourists. "We expect some 300,000 domestic and foreign tourists to come to the festival," the organizers said.
Local District Officer Sher Bahadur Dhungana informed that the programme is in line with the government’s policy to promote culture and history of the country through the organization of several promotional activities.
"We are receiving positive response from all quarters and thus are confident that it will turn to be a great success," he said indicating that even the Maoists are positive in promoting the three-day festival.
Sindhupalchowk that borders the Chinese autonomous region of Tibet at the east is some four-hour drive from the capital towards the northeast. The district is rich in mountains, rivers and religious sites.

Subash Nirola, Director at Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), speaking on the occasion said that the NTB is promoting the festival and is a facilitator of the event.
"NTB is serious in promoting tourism inside and outside the country," he said.
The three-day festival includes sight seeing of major attractive places of the district, swimming in the Bhotekoshi River, short trek, cultural dances, including the Sherpa dance, Mahakali dance, Jhakri dance, and other shows.
According to a press release issued on the occasion, the packages for the festival are subsidized with hotels providing discounts up to 50 percent. "Bus operators have also agreed to give discounts of 25 percent on the fare," the release reads.
